Built for a purpose
- Builder / location
- Fincantieri, Monfalcone, Italy
- Original role
- Sphere-class cruise ship
Why it was built
Sun Princess introduced Princess Cruises’ Sphere class, delivered from Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard in Italy in 2024. The design concentrates on accommodation and public venues, including a covered dome at the forward exterior, rather than on extending hull length for its own sake.

An Italian build with transatlantic service
The hull was assembled at Monfalcone on the Adriatic before entering service in the Mediterranean and then repositioning across the Atlantic. Construction location, delivery and seasonal deployment are separate milestones; the directory records them as such instead of folding them into a single location figure.

Comparing cabin-based capacity
The profile lists a maximum of 5,189 passengers. Cruise capacity is quoted this way for every ship on this site, so the appropriate comparison is against other cruise vessels using the same definition. Sun Princess’s 177,882 GT also shows how much enclosed volume a modern cruise hull can carry in a 345-metre length.
