A development of an established design
Symphony of the Seas followed Harmony in the Saint-Nazaire building programme. The shipyard records delivery in March 2018. The open central arrangement is a distinctive feature of this family: accommodation rises around internal outdoor spaces instead of forming a single uninterrupted block.
Why gross tonnage matters here
A cruise vessel earns its living from accommodation and shared amenities. Enclosed volume therefore tells a reader something that length alone cannot. Two ships can be almost identical in length yet have different gross tonnages because their superstructures, internal arrangements or measurement particulars differ. The comparison tool preserves those separate columns rather than calculating a single “size score”.
From the yard to service
Its documented starting point is Saint-Nazaire on France’s Atlantic coast. The profile’s service status is based on published references, not a continuously verified itinerary. For a particular day, a received AIS report would add a timestamped location; without one, neither the builder’s location nor a past photograph should be mistaken for the ship’s current berth.
